As a psychiatrist I, unbelievably, receive advice all the time. The problem is that people have no idea what severe mental illness is. A friend asked me if his mother was crazy. She is quite quirky, but 70 and doing well. I said no and he responded, "you don't think she is crazy?" As is I missed the memo. This friend has never stepped foot into a mental hospital. The same goes for trauma and let's throw in poverty.
