This is a nice introduction to the idea of emergence, which I think is missing from most people's scientific vocabulary. I would add only one small adjustment. You state that the complexity of things is so great that reducing it to a fundamental level is impractical. It is not impractical. It is impossible. There is no evidence of these higher order properties on lower levels. Where is wetness in water molecules? Nowhere.
