This is a very useful distinction. There is much more to discuss about our attentional systems and mental health. I do so in my book, "FRONTAL FATIGUE. The Impact of Modern Life and Technology on Mental Illness." Technology has transformed our lives and the demands placed on our brains/minds. The weight of handling these demands falls on the brain's prefrontal cortex (the "frontal" in Frontal Fatigue). But depleting this brain area is now shown to directly release any vulnerability to mental illness one may have. Our tech culture, this brain area, and what we do about the subsequent problems are wide areas, but areas we must all become familiar with.
