This is not only common in our culture but lionized. This is a strong individual who gets what he (often enough) wants. And it is almost required for much of what counts as success (i.e. money and prestige). I know a lot of "nice" people who have never uttered the words "I'm sorry," or betrayed an ounce of shame. I'm glad you lowered the temperature from serial killing narcisists to regular people we all encounter.
