This is not only common in our culture but lionized. This is a strong individual who gets what he (often enough) wants. And it is almost required for much of what counts as success (i.e. money and prestige). I know a lot of "nice" people who have never uttered the words "I'm sorry," or betrayed an ounce of shame.
